Final Season 2011 League Week
Posted in: Front Page, Latest News, Match Reports
Last weekend was the penultimate and final rounds of league games in the SAFL 2011 season. Bondi had a packed weekend with both the First and Reserve grade teams in action on the Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday Bondi hosted local rivals Balmain Wanderers at Centennial Park in the local derby with mixed results.
The Reserve grade was under strength and were beaten 3-1 by a well prepared Balmain side.
A win was vital for the First grade to stay within a good chance of winning out the minor premiership. The First grade team took the game to Balmain and came away with a deserved 1-0 win. Both teams went into the last league game of the season on the Sunday against the top of the table team Southern Stars feeling the affects of the prior day’s games and for some the city to surf.
The Reserve grade team had no chance of making the top four play offs and were playing for pride, something they had in spades coming away with a very well fought and deserved 0-0 draw.
The First grade needed a win to affirm their place on top of the table and take the minor premiership from Southern Stars. Both teams played a spirited game but Bondi proved the better team and came away with a 2-0 win and the minor premiership.
However with no SAFL weekly sent out this week the SAFL committee have yet to confirm the results. -
